Godiva Chocolate Truffles: Godiva reinvents truffles for lovers

The new Godiva Chocolatier Truffle Collection was unveiled at the House of Godiva in Mayfair, London. The six new creations will be available in time for the Valentine’s Day promotion. A Scratch & Win ticket will be slipped under the chocolates to allow winners and a lover of their choice to embark on a dream holiday with Club Med.

The new Godiva Chocolate Truffles marry the flavours of chocolate and fruits such as Godiva Chocolate Truffles strawberry, Godiva Chocolate Truffles raspberry, Godiva Chocolate Truffles apricot, Godiva Chocolate Truffles pear, Godiva Chocolate Truffles cashew and Godiva Chocolate Truffles coconut. Traditionally, Godiva Chocolate Truffles are made of a thick chocolate layer enveloping a core of ganache, butter cream, whipped cream or mouse, and then covered with chocolate flakes, chocolate shavings, sugar or cocoa powder.

The collection consists of six rich flavours:

Godiva Chocolate Truffles Strawberry Truffle: Designed for the "sensual lover", the fruit mousse core is covered in fondant chocolate and sprinkled with a mix of caster sugar and strawberry powder.

Godiva Chocolate Truffles Raspberry truffle: The truffle, for the “fun-loving lover who enjoys life to the full”, is made of raspberry mousse core covered in chocolate and dusted in caster sugar and raspberry powder.

Godiva Chocolate Truffles Apricot Truffle: For the "tender lover", milk chocolate mousse and apricot pulp covered in milk chocolate made up this truffle, which is adorned with an orange stripe reminiscent of the colour of the apricots.

Godiva Chocolate Truffles Pear Truffle: For "lovers who like to tempt and tantalise their senses", this blend of milk chocolate ganache is flavoured with pear. The fondant chocolate shell is adorned with a green stripe, indicating the pear.

Godiva Chocolate Truffles Cashew Truffle: The truffle for the discerning offers a creamy ganache core made of cashew puree covered in white chocolate and adorned with small pieces of cashew nuts.

Godiva Chocolate Truffles Coconut Truffle: Coconut cream in milk chocolate covered in coconut shavings is the flavour proposed to the exotic lover.

Godiva Chocolate Truffles: New Limited Edition Truffles Inspired by Exotic Destinations

New Godiva Chocolate Truffle Collection Takes Consumers on a Sweet Journey

Klocko, Godiva Chocolate Truffles' Chef Chocolatier who was recently named as one

of the "10 Best Pastry Chefs in America" by Chocolatier and Pastry Art & Design
magazines, has developed a new collection of Limited Edition Godiva Chocolate

Truffles inspired by ingredients, recipes and cultures from faraway places.

In creating a line of chocolates inspired by exotic destinations, it's
fitting that Chef Klocko chose truffles as his "medium." Godiva's legendary
chocolate truffles have always represented the ultimate in chocolate indulgence

for discerning chocolate enthusiasts who savor the complex and sophisticated taste
of this classic European confection of butter, cream and chocolate.

According to Chef Klocko, an important element in developing the new
travel-inspired truffles was the latitude of different flavors and ingredients
combined with a complimentary chocolate ganache.

Godiva's "Tour de Truffles"

Leave your passport at home. Godiva's new Limited Edition Truffles
transport consumers on a gastronomic voyage to six delectable destinations.
The new collection includes:

* Mojito: Chef Klocko's interpretation includes a fusion of aromatic

spearmint spiked with hints of lime and rum, within a creamy white chocolate

ganache. The Godiva Chocolate Truffles is covered in a milk chocolate couverture

and dusted with cocoa powder.

* Horchata: Chef Klocko's recipe uses notes of the cocktail's primary

ingredients-- flavored with roasted almonds, cinnamon, nutmeg and brown sugar --

to create a pure translation from drink to truffle. The "gold" treasure is

nestled inside Godiva's rich dark chocolate.

* Coconut Zest: Chef Klocko accentuates the zesty lemon flavor and notes of

creamy coconut with a touch of vanilla swirled into white chocolate ganache. This

vibrant Godiva Chocolate Truffles is covered in dark chocolate and topped with

coconut fines.

* Pabana: For Godiva's Caribbean-inspired truffle, Chef Klocko tones down the

acidity of the passion fruit juice by fusing it with a basic banana flavor mixed

into milk chocolate ganache. The fragrant medley is covered in velvety dark

chocolate and decorated with stringing in a yellow hue that depicts the banana.

* Karibu: African influences of sweet honeys and crunchy cashews come

together in a truffle as warm and inviting as its Swahili translation,"Welcome

Traveler." Chef Klocko delicately folds the tenderness of blossom honey flavor

into white chocolate ganache garnished with roasted cashews for a "welcome"

addition to the Godiva Chocolate Truffles collection.

* Caramel Solstice: Chef Klocko blends soft caramel with oils of orange, and
adds speckles of roasted hazelnuts for this "heavenly" piece bathed in
dark chocolate.

Godiva's Limited Edition Truffles will be showcased in a deluxe 24-piece
assortment box featuring four of each of the six truffles. The
truffles will also be sold in a "flight" of six, exclusively at Godiva's

boutiques.

The Year of the Godiva Chocolate Truffles!
In addition to the introduction of a special collection of Godiva Chocolate Truffles Limited Edition Truffles, the chocolatier is elevating its signature line of legendary Godiva Chocolate Truffles to new heights.
The highlight of Godiva's "truffle extravaganza" -- is the debut of a new signature Godiva Chocolate Truffles that's sure to delight chocolate purists: the Extra-Dark Godiva Chocolate Truffles. Featuring a 72-percent
cocoa content, the extra-dark ganache is dusted in cocoa for an unsurpassed
chocolate experience.
"Godiva Chocolate Truffles are an important part of our Belgian heritage, delivering a complete and decadent sensory experience," says Godiva Vice President.
Godiva's signature line of Godiva Chocolate Truffles features these sumptuous varieties: Godiva Chocolate Truffles Hazelnut Praline; Godiva Chocolate Truffles Milk Chocolate; Godiva Chocolate Truffles Dark Chocolate; Godiva Chocolate Truffles Extra Dark Chocolate; Godiva Chocolate Truffles Double
Chocolate Raspberry; Godiva Chocolate Truffles French Vanilla; Godiva Chocolate Truffles Smooth Coconut; Godiva Chocolate Truffles Roasted Almond;
Godiva Chocolate Truffles Cappuccino; and Godiva Chocolate Truffles Strawberry. These delectable Godiva Chocolate Truffles will find a new "home"
, inside elegant packaging in rich chocolate browns and burgundy
tones, which hints that something truly decadent awaits inside.

Godiva Chocolate Truffles: Truffles that are Pure Luxury

Of all the names associated with fine chocolate, there are few as iconic as Godiva. Founded in 1926 by Joseph Draps, the Belgian chocolatier has since blossomed into one of the world's most celebrated, earning it a Luxist award nomination in the best truffles category.

Draps opened his first store on a cobblestone street in Brussels nearly a century ago, its name inspired by the legendary Lady Godiva. As the story goes, the medieval dame grew upset with the onerous taxes that her husband, Lord Leofric, levied upon his subjects in Coventry, England. Leofric proposed a bargain: If she could ride naked through town without any citizens eyeing her, he'd ease their financial burden. Lady Godiva did exactly that, and Leofric relented.

The name Godiva still evokes images of graciousness, luxury and sensuality. Draps first expanded the company beyond Belgium in 1958, opening a boutique in Paris. The first North American shop followed in 1966; another in Tokyo came in 1972. Today there are over 450 Godiva stores in 80 countries around the globe. Of course, its delectible chocolates can also be ordered at its online shop.

Though Godiva boats a wide range of fine chocolate candies, the chocolatier is as famous for its packaging as Lady Godiva was for her lack thereof. Godiva's signature is the Ballotin, French for "little box of chocolates." The boxes come in all manner of colors, from the traditional gold to seasonal red, and sport festive ribbons. The truffle boxes fit a wide range occasions.

Godiva Chocolate Truffles: The Chocolate Experience

Early on I learned the difference between really good chocolate, and “other” chocolate. Good chocolate came in nice packaging, was served to you over a high glass counter by a woman wearing white gloves and a fancy uniform, and just one piece cost more than 2 or 3 of the candy bars you might eat on any other day. The whole reason why Godiva (or any high-end chocolate) tastes so good is not only its inherent quality, but also the whole experience you get when you walk into the chocolate boutique. It’s the tinkle of the silver bell over the door, the perfectly aligned rows of truffles, the heady smell of fresh cocoa which wafts over you as you inspect all the gorgeous, shiny little baubles. You walk in and feel as though you must suddenly be quiet, demure, sophisticated. This is food to be respected.

My first experience with this was at the Godiva Chocolates store in Manhattan. I was about fourteen, traveling in New York with my Mom. She and I were on an indulgent holiday in the middle of winter – any excuse for chocolate was deemed a good one. We walked into the Godiva store and I literally spent a good half hour just gazing at it all. It took several more minutes for me to actually choose a few pieces to take home, and eventually I was coaxed out of the shop, clutching my bag which was folded over at the top just so. I don’t remember the chocolates themselves all that well, but I remember every moment of my time in the shop, and the heady experience of having something so special in my hands.

That first experience with expensive chocolate paved the way for me to seek out chocolates – where the chocolate appeals to all five of our senses, not just our taste buds. Since then I’ve tasted, smelled, gazed upon and swooned in various small chocolate stores all over the world – not just for the satisfying snap of the chocolate and the soft squish of ganache, but for the entire experience. On my honeymoon I forced my new husband to divert our route by several hundred kilometers, just so we could visit the Godiva shop in the Le Grand Place in Brussels. I didn’t realize it then, but those early chocolate experiences actually changed my life – so enamored was I that I ended up with a career which involves my using chocolate daily. Maybe some things are just meant to be.

Godiva Chocolate Truffles:Chocolate, alcohol come together in showcase

The word decadence was thrown around a lot Saturday at Bally’s Atlantic City — people sipping Johnnie Walker Gold out of chocolate glasses next to a flowing chocolate fountain will have that effect — but for Diane Yamate, chocolate is more a cure-all than an indulgence.

“Chocolate itself is such an uplifting thing,” said Yamate, of the Highland Park, Middlesex County-based Birnn Chocolates. “People really need to be brought up, not brought down. People could be having such a bad day, and they’ll come into the store with you, have a chocolate, talk to you. ... It’s almost like chocolate therapy.”

The booths — from austere companies including Godiva, makers of the the godiva chocolate truffles and godiva chocolate alike — invited visitors to either indulge their sweet tooth with some chocolate or wash down that pesky sweet tooth with a smooth cocktail.

Godiva Chocolate Truffles: Godiva Pumpkin Patch Truffles

One reason to drop in to Godiva this month is to try their Pumpkin Patch Truffles. Instead of just wrapping up chocolates in orange and black wrappers in a weak attempt at seasonality, the chocolatier goes all-out by creating a uniquely fall-flavored confection. The truffles have a pumpkin-spiced ganache center and are coated in a velvety milk chocolate. As a final touch, the truffles are lightly dusted with cinnamon before being wrapped up link miniature pumpkins - complete with tiny leaves.

Godiva Chocolate Truffles: the pinnacle of chocolates

Back before I started candy blogging in earnest, I thought Godiva Chocolatier, makers of the godiva chocolate truffles and godiva chocolates alike, was the pinnacle of chocolates. How could they not be, with their beautiful, shiny, golden ballotins? When I was in middle school, my family got bumped up to first class for a Shanghai to Tokyo flight. They served Godiva chocolate truffles for dessert, which only bolstered my vaunted view of the brand.

I was so pleased by my free box of Godiva chocolate truffles. The eight godiva chocolate truffles within were (from left to right, then top to bottom in the below photo): Godiva Chocolate truffles milk chocolate, Godiva Chocolate truffles hazelnut praline, Godiva Chocolate truffles dark chocolate, Godiva Chocolate truffles smooth coconut, Godiva Chocolate truffles French vanilla, Godiva Chocolate truffles roasted almond, Godiva Chocolate truffles extra dark chocolate, and Godiva Chocolate truffles double chocolate raspberry.

Godiva Chocolate truffles milk chocolate was a milk chocolate shell around a creamy, sweet, and fatty milk chocolate ganache. Godiva calls this one “the classic.” The Godiva Chocolate truffles dark chocolate was a dark version of the milk (duh) that I found to be overly sweet, though its fruity finish was nice.

I liked the Godiva Chocolate truffles extra dark chocolate somewhat more. Its ganache was thicker and less flowy than those of the milk and dark, but it still managed to be unpleasantly greasy. It had a deep cocoa flavor but not much flavor nuance otherwise.

The Godiva Chocolate truffles hazelnut praline (above), dubbed a “nutty reverie” by Godiva, was a milk-chocolate enrobed truffle covered in tiny bits of chopped and candied hazelnuts. The nut bits had a light crunch and a sweet crisp, and the truffle itself had a yummy, honeycombed nuttiness to it, making it my favorite in the box.

Godiva Chocolate truffles double chocolate raspberry (aka “berry tempting” in Godiva-speak) had a strangely wet ganache enrobed in dark chocolate. It had a seedy raspberry sweet finish, and the whole truffle had a nice brightness to it.

Godiva Chocolate truffles coconut (below) was a white ganache with a milk chocolate coating. It was nicely nutty, with a slight grain and grit to the filling. The finish was sweet and tasted strongly of coconut, and the whole thing was a tad too sweet for me.

Godiva Chocolate truffles french vanilla was dark chocolate around a creamy, white filling. I didn’t get much genuine vanilla flavor from this. Instead, I mostly tasted its saccharine finish.

Finally, Godiva Chocolate truffles roasted almond was my second favorite after the Godiva Chocolate truffles hazelnut praline. Its ganache was thick and creamy with a wonderful roasty nuttiness. I found it pleasant to eat but also a bit overly sweet. Perhaps it would have been better in a dark enrobing?
